Hastings Herring Fair

Latest photography posted on my Flickr Photo Stream

Fourth in my Hastings Fishing beach series. This time of the sheds where the fishing tackle and nets ect is kept. For this image, I also tried something different, inspired by my friend and fellow photographer Paul Manser was doing initially, and that was using his Canon Speedlite to illuminate a scene. For this photograph I used my LED torch which I always carry in my camera bag, to illuminate  the poster of the "Hastings Herring Festival

Man and his true best friend forever

Portrait of Thomas who is an old family friend. This was taken 2 Christmas ago in the mountains above Rapperswil, when were visiting family in Switzerland. I think I have caught a real moment of perfect communion here between dog and master, and which for me really symbolises the loving almost symbiotic relationships that are established between dog and owner, that transcends the master servant relationship and becomes a true and loving friendship.

Old Town Palma de Mallorca

Latest photography posted on my Flickr Photo Stream

The first of a series of photographs I took one evening in Palma de Mallorca in the back streets of the old town.  Such a photogenic place, teeming with atmosphere and drenched in history and time gone by and of times yet to come. In  this series I am also experimenting with a change from my usual monochrome/ black and white style, with an almost creamy slant to the tones. Enjoy the night time stroll.

Darren from Bourne Barbers

Latest photography posted on my Ipernity Photo Stream

This photograph of Darren who runs my local barber shop, is part of an ongoing series of environmental portraits that I have been working on for sometime, more on this series of work on my website here.

I have photographed Darren and his shop a number of times as part of an exchange of services, and as a result he has used my photographs in a number of adverts that he has run in the local press. It should be noted, that the prints on the wall behind Darren are mine, and are photos of the Barber chairs from the previous occupant of Darren shop, a little local history shall we say.  Needless to say, if you want a good haircut in Eastbourne, Darren is your man, please visit his Facebook page here

GM Days

Latest photography posted on my Flickr Photo Stream

Photograph of a circa 1950's British Vauxhall Velox in the foreground, and in the back ground a circa 1950's American Chevrolet Coupe. Both vehicles falling under the general Motors GM Banner these days. This was taken last year in Eastbourne, outside the Grand Hotel. The cars were part of the Magnificent Motors show held annually in May, on the Western Lawns. There is a certain  timeless essence to this photo, betrayed only by the modern parking restriction sign attached to the lamppost.

This was taken two years back in Brighton, on a course hosted by renowned street photographer Antonio Olmos. This course was the beginning of a new approach for me towards my photography, and in particular street style. More of my street photography here

Photograph of a lovely Daimler Coupe, again taken at the XJ Restoration workshop. The bright Yellow of the car and the blue of the sea containers made for an interesting contrast in shape and form, with obvious overtures to Ikea. Please note I have a page dedicated on my website to Keith and his restoration business here.

Pretty in Black

This photo was taken about 2 years ago at Keith Parrington  XJ Restorations workshop here in Eastbourne.  I think I fell a little in love with this tidy looking XJ that Keith and his team had just finished restoring. No glitz, no glamour here, just refined elegant retro style. Please note I have a page dedicated on my website to Keith and his restoration business here.

Pony Express

Another installment in my "Americans Abroad" series (more here on flickr). This time of a 1968 Ford Mustang Fast Back (As driven by Steve McQueen in Bullit). I spotted  this outside the Kwik Fit in Eastbourne, the owner was having something done to his tyres. He was quite happy for me to photograph his car which had just arrived from Texas and was on its first outing. He even let me take a portrait of him which I will post another time.

Essentially European

Taken in Sóller on the Island of Mallorca. On a day trip to the town (I have posted previously from this excursion) it was particularly pleasing to be greeted by a convoy of vintage French Citroen's that were pulling through town, which formed part of an organised rally that then proceeded to stop off in the town square in front of the church. It all felt very quaint and very European to me at that moment, and as if we had stepped back in the past to a simpler time and place.

Puff the Magic Dragon

Latest photography posted on my Flickr Photo Stream

This photograph was taken Palma de Mallorca last year. I had noticed this van parked in various locations around the apartment we were staying in, and was eager to photograph it, however the backdrop was never quite right or there were other cars parked to close as parking is a premium in the old town ( as I am sure you can imagine). So imagine my surprise and delight when I came across it towards the end of the holiday parked down a backstreet, up against this lovely old building, with gorgeous diffused late afternoon light bouncing off the sandstone walls. Cherry on top is the Mercedes reflected in the paintwork, don't know why, but I like this, maybe something about the fine heritage and tradition of these two iconic German car manufacturers.

Cherry Picker

This photo is another addition to my Work Horse series of photographs, more details on my website. This example is an ex BT cherry picker Bedford van, taken on the farm belonging to friends parents, the ironic thing here is they are apple and cherry farmers in Kent.

Following on from my post the other day entitled "One day I wish to have this kind of time", this scene was a little further along, and in fact you can see the red truck in the back ground in that photo. One thing you can certainly say about Switzerland, and that is that the sense of orderliness and everything having its place extends across all aspects of Swiss society from Urban to Rural.

One day I wish to have this kind of time (Sic OTT)

This was taken in the mountains above Rapperwil in the Canton of Zurich. We were visiting my sister-inlaw ex husband, and he took us on a walk. I was fascinated by the assortment of odds and ends by the side of the road,  and in particular by the old short wheel base Land Rover which appeared to have been turned into a cart of sorts.  The title for this photograph is taken from a track by the same from musician OTT on his "Mir" album (well worth a listen in my opinion).

An American Abroad

Latest photography posted on my Flickr Photo Stream

Another continuation in my Americans Abroad photographic series, this time of a Cadillac which I photographed up in the mountains outside of Zurich. I liked the timeless feel of the car against the snowy backdrop of the railway tracks, and how the American car contrasts against the  Swiss style architecture which creates a kind of unease as you realise there is something quite surreal about the scene.
