The concept of Steampunk first came to my attention when I saw a group of them at the Hooe Vintage Car Meeting in August 2013. I was fascinated by their attire, and the amount of effort which I could immediately appreciate had gone into creating this highly original look. Plucking up my courage, I approached them and asked if I could take a group portrait, to which they all graciously agreed. It quickly became apparent to me then that this was a friendly, accommodating and generally rather likeable group of people, whom I quite fancied working with.
My thoughts behind this series of portraits was to capture and document the individuality and personality of each of the Steampunk's and their attire and by doing so, show my personal appreciation of the time and effort that has gone into creating this very unique and fascinating look and fashion statement.
A statement which in my humble opinion goes way beyond simply a look and becomes a way of life, and encapsulates the idea that one can honestly and simply say “Steampunk, it’s really just rather nice”.
This particular set of 8 photographs is part of a series of portraits which I took at Eastbourne's first annual Steampunk festival, held in September last year. More to follow soon of the gentlemen and their attire.
