Continuing my night time wander through the cobbled back streets and alley ways of the old town in Palma de Mallorca.

Walk away quickly and quietly

Photograph of a 'Boss' Harley Davidson taken in Palma de Mallorca last year. I like how the figure on the right appears to be scampering away.

Taken in Palma de Mallorca. I love photographing Vespa style scooters, as they have such a timeless quality to them that never seems to grow old. In this phonograph I also really like all the contrasty areas of shade and sunshine. If I say so myself, I think I have handled the exposure pretty well here with a nice balanced feel to the image complimenting the composition.

The second photograph in my black & white / monochrome series taken in and around the alleys and back streets of the old town of Palma de Mallorca. The sense of of mood and atmosphere is so tangible when you are there, that it seems you can almost touch and taste it.

A reminder that you can view more of night photography on my website here:

Old Town Palma de Mallorca

The first of a series of photographs I took one evening in Palma de Mallorca in the back streets of the old town.  Such a photogenic place, teeming with atmosphere and drenched in history and time gone by and of times yet to come. In  this series I am also experimenting with a change from my usual monochrome/ black and white style, with an almost creamy slant to the tones. Enjoy the night time stroll.

Night Bug

Taken last Easter in Palma de Mallorca. I was out exploring the old town  for some night photography street scenes, when I cam across this immaculately kept beetle parked up in a small square. As you can tell by closer inspection, this is a rather tasty looking bug, especially when you look at the size of its tyre's. Body work was in perfect condition. In  this composition, I really like how the rounded shapes of the Beetle blend into the square and rectangle shapes of the buildings just out of focus in the back ground.

Puff the Magic Dragon

This photograph was taken Palma de Mallorca last year. I had noticed this van parked in various locations around the apartment we were staying in, and was eager to photograph it, however the backdrop was never quite right or there were other cars parked to close as parking is a premium in the old town ( as I am sure you can imagine). So imagine my surprise and delight when I came across it towards the end of the holiday parked down a backstreet, up against this lovely old building, with gorgeous diffused late afternoon light bouncing off the sandstone walls. Cherry on top is the Mercedes reflected in the paintwork, don't know why, but I like this, maybe something about the fine heritage and tradition of these two iconic German car manufacturers.

Coming out of the sun

Taken outside my friends apartment block in Palma de Mallorca, late afternoon at the end of a wonderful week spent there. I don't usually like shooting directly into the sun,  on this occasion though I loved how the light was refracting through the tree, and how it appeared at the time that people were walking out of from the sun, which was setting directly behind in the hills above Palma. Enjoy.

Home of the Who

This was taken in the Old Town of Palma de Mallorca. Noticed this busker who was situated in an ideal situation for some street style photography, and the sign behind "Home of The Who" was the perfect cherry on top. I also like the connection with the girl walking on the background who has glanced up from her phone. All in all in my opinion an interesting street scene.

Those were the days my friend

This was taken in Palma de Mallorca. I was walking along the beach and saw this elderly fellow sitting on the bench enjoying the April sunshine. I really liked how he was positioned with the buildings behind, which were an interesting mix of traditional and modern styles creating an almost timeless appeal.

Long Fin

Photograph of the tail fins of a 1960's pink Eldorado Cadillac that I took in Palma de Mallorca. Normally I would try to photograph the car as a whole, however as it was in a crowded car park, I thought to try and capture some of the more interesting details, and combine this with some really shallow depth of field. I met the owners as I finished up, and it it turns out they were from Vienna in Austria. Really great to see these old American land yachts out and about.

Mad Dogs and Englishman go out in the midday sun

This was taken in Palma de Mallorca last year. It was the middle of the day and baking hot. I was taken by the open space of the square, the medieval architecture and cafe culture, the couple strolling across the square and the group of students who were cunningly making best use of the shade thrown by the tall palm trees.

Crossing Point

This was taken last summer in Palma de Mallorca. Was crossing over the dual carriage way to get onto the seafront, when we were mobbed by a group Italian pensioners who were heading back to their cruise ship which had pulled into the port for the morning, I noticed this man who appeared interesting to me and took this scene whilst we were waiting for the pedestrian signal to cross the road.

Old and New

This photo was taken last year on a holiday to Mallorca at the train terminal of Fornalutx.  This was part of a journey to Port Soller. The best way to get to Soller, it to catch the train from Palma De Mallorca to Fornalutx, and you then take a tram down to the Port. A real highlight for us, and well worth the trip. Port de Sóller is a beautiful village and the port of the town of Sóller, in Mallorca, in the Balearic Islands, Spain.  Along with the village of Fornalutx and the hamlet of Biniaraix they combine to form Sóller.

Photograph of an old Skoda that caught my eye whilst wandering the quaint back streets of the old town of Palma de Mallorca. I really like the painted religious scene on the building wall, and the curved arches to the right. The contrast of the Yellow stone and the white of the car caught my eye too, as well as it being of a retro vintage.
